Gates KP kit codes: keep PowerGrip and Micro-V family names in a quote

A Gates kit code beginning KP should not be treated as a complete description of the belt system. Gates’ December 2020 new-number bulletin supplies a useful historical example: KP15678XS-1 is labelled PowerGrip Kit + Waterpump, while KP15PK1230 is labelled Micro-V Kit + Waterpump.

Two entries in the dated bulletin
Complete code Published family label
KP15678XS-1 PowerGrip Kit + Waterpump
KP15PK1230 Micro-V Kit + Waterpump

The shared beginning does not make these interchangeable products. Preserve the full reference, including hyphens and suffixes, together with the named kit family in an enquiry.

Use a bulletin as a traceable starting point

The source is a December 2020 announcement, not a current stock list or a complete vehicle application record. Its brand-level application labels are too broad to approve a kit for an actual car. Ask the supplier for the current catalogue/application match and any supersession that applies to the exact requested reference.

Keep proposed replacement codes in a separate field until their relationship is documented. Do not silently shorten a code or substitute another kit because both descriptions contain water pump.

Compare the bill of materials

Ask for the actual contents, quantities, complete part references and supplier terms. A kit-family name should help organise that request; it should not be expanded into an assumed universal parts list.

No component was inspected and this article provides no belt, pump or engine-maintenance procedure. It does not claim that the historical codes are available today. The useful purchasing distinction is between a complete manufacturer reference with its family label and a prefix that cannot answer the application question alone.

Manufacturer sources read 19 October 2026. This is a document-based purchasing guide, not a hands-on test, installation instruction or confirmation of current stock. Exact local application and offer terms need the supplier’s written confirmation.
