PSA OpenSTAT 2025 import quantities: why the unit depends on the commodity

Direct answer: PSA’s OpenSTAT table for monthly Philippine import quantities by commodity and country of origin does not use one universal unit. Its metadata says the unit is “volume dependent on the unit of measurement,” and identifies the commodity classification as the 2022 Philippine Standard Commodity Classification (PSCC). Before comparing values, record the selected commodity and its unit.

The PSA OpenSTAT 2025 quantity table and its metadata were opened and read on 19 October 2026. This is a dataset-use note, not a tariff-classification decision, import valuation or supplier ranking.

What the table can answer

The table is named “Monthly Quantity of Philippine Imports by commodity and country of origin, 2025.” PSA describes its basic source as Bureau of Customs data from Import Entry and Internal Revenue Declaration records. The metadata marks the series as administrative data, labels updates monthly and notes revised (R) and preliminary (P) data labels. Its commodity codes use PSCC version 2022.

Those fields make the table useful for a bounded research question: what quantity did PSA report for a selected commodity code, month and country of origin? They do not turn the origin country into a named manufacturer, exporter or local supplier.

Why a quantity comparison can go wrong

One commodity may be measured by mass while another uses a different reporting unit. Adding or directly comparing quantities across unrelated codes can therefore produce an invalid conclusion. A large number is not automatically a larger commercial market: quantity, value, unit, product scope, time period and origin each answer different questions.

Fields to save from an OpenSTAT extract
Field Why retain it
Commodity code and description Codes follow PSCC 2022; broad labels can hide different products.
Unit PSA says quantity units depend on the commodity’s measurement.
Period The table is monthly for reference year 2025; retain the month.
Country of origin Origin is a country field, not supplier identity or seller verification.
Data flag and extraction date Preserve preliminary/revised status and the version checked.

Use narrower filters and keep the source trail

OpenSTAT advises users to select variables and values before showing a table or file. Its interface limits on-screen display to 1,000 rows and 30 columns and may report that a selection exceeds the maximum number of cells. Save the selected codes and filters with any export so another reader can reproduce the query.

This table does not establish Philippine demand for automotive parts without a separately verified commodity definition and unit. It also does not identify suppliers or prove availability. Mark a proposed code-to-part mapping “Needs editor verification” and confirm it against the relevant official classification material.
