Malaysia SSM Profile vs OEM Authorisation: Two Different Supplier Checks

A Malaysian company profile helps establish which legal entity you are considering. It does not, by itself, establish that the entity is authorised to distribute a particular OEM brand or can supply your exact order. Keep the registry check, brand-authority check and delivery-capability check separate.

Read the registry product for what it contains

The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) Company Information page describes its Company Profile as a report containing identity, status, address and other corporate information. It also identifies the information-provider portals through which the report is available. The page was reviewed on 5 October 2026; no clear content-update date was shown.

This article concerns an SSM company profile, not every Malaysian business structure or every information product. Match the report type to the proposed contracting entity. A screenshot of a search result and a detailed report do not necessarily contain the same information. No supplier profile has been purchased or assessed for this article.

Make a claim-to-evidence table

Supplier claimEvidence routeWhat that route does not settle
“This is our company”Exact registered name and number in an appropriate SSM recordAuthority of an unrelated website or email sender
“This address is our warehouse”Registry address plus location-specific operating evidenceStock available at that address
“We are an OEM distributor”Current brand appointment and independent manufacturer confirmationEvery model or territory covered
“These parts are genuine”Exact product identification and manufacturer verification routeAuthenticity from a logo alone
“We can deliver this quantity”Dated allocation or stock evidence and written delivery termsPerformance merely because an entity is registered
“Pay this beneficiary”Invoice identity and independently checked payment instructionBank ownership inferred from a PDF

A practical identity-first review

Start by asking for the precise contracting name and registration number before searching. Similar trading names can produce irrelevant results. Preserve the record date and query used, then compare the name against the quotation and intended invoice. Record discrepancies in a visible question column.

For an OEM-authorised-supplier claim, ask which brand, product family, territory and appointment period the claim covers. Use a manufacturer contact route found independently from the brand’s own site, rather than relying solely on a phone number printed on the supplier’s letter. A manufacturer’s answer should be preserved with its date and exact scope.

Finally, keep order capacity in a separate row. Ask whether the quote concerns goods in stock, an allocated production order or goods the seller still needs to source. The distinction changes the supporting documents you request. DFC Cari’s worksheet is an editorial method; it is not a certification programme or an endorsement of listed companies.

Questions buyers ask

Does an existing company status mean an order is safe?

It is one identity fact, not a delivery, quality or credit guarantee. Review the transaction evidence separately.

Should an SSM record be published in a supplier review?

Avoid posting personal information or confidential records merely to demonstrate a check. Retain necessary evidence appropriately and describe only supported, relevant findings. No supplier has been labelled verified here.
